If you are searching for a LANTITE tutor, read this first. Most people who sit the test pass it without one: in 2025, 87.5 per cent of first-time candidates met the literacy standard at their first attempt and 94.3 per cent met numeracy. The content is Year 9 to 10 level. What catches people is 65 questions in under two hours, a section with no calculator, and a skill or two that has gone rusty. None of that needs an hour of someone's time each week. It needs repetitions with feedback, and that is exactly what a tutor cannot sit beside you and do.

Do you need a tutor to pass the LANTITE?
Look at what the test is. Two components, 65 questions each, two hours each. Literacy is reading comprehension and the technical skills of writing: grammar, spelling, word choice, how a text is organised. Numeracy is number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability, set in everyday and school contexts, with a basic on-screen calculator for 52 questions and none for the last 13. Nothing in it is beyond what you did to get into a teaching degree.
Now look at what fails people. Running out of time, because under two minutes a question leaves no room to work anything out from first principles. Meeting a format they have never practised. Freezing on the no-calculator section. And one or two genuinely rusty skills, usually percentages, ratio, or reading a graph, which the statement of results will name precisely. Every one of those is fixed by the same thing: doing a lot of the real question types, under time, and reading why you got each wrong one wrong.
That is the whole argument. A tutor gives you one hour a week of explanation. Passing the LANTITE takes several hundred practised questions with feedback, and the feedback has to arrive at the moment you get it wrong, not next Tuesday. The pass rates tell you how this plays out: roughly nine in ten first-timers meet the numeracy standard and seven in eight meet literacy, and most of the rest meet it within a year.
What LANTITE tutoring costs
Private tutoring in Australia typically runs $40 to $180 an hour, and tutors sell blocks of sessions, so a run-up to the test usually costs several hundred dollars, sometimes more than a thousand. Set that against the test itself: $196 for both components, $98 to resit one.

We would be lying if we said never. A few sessions are money well spent if two or more of these are true:
- You have missed the standard twice and your statement of results shows band 1 in the same sub-domain both times.
- You have not done any maths since Year 10 and ACER's practice questions look foreign rather than rusty.
- English is an additional language and the technical skills of writing, syntax, grammar and spelling, are where the marks go.
- You genuinely cannot make yourself practise without a fixed appointment.
Even then, buy sessions, not a package, take your statement of results to the first one, and spend the hour on the descriptors it lists. The volume, the hundreds of timed questions that turn understanding into speed, still has to come from somewhere, and that part does not need a person.
What actually passes people
Three to four weeks, twenty to thirty minutes a day
Daily beats weekly. Pace is a habit, and habits are built in short sessions, not long ones.
Diagnose first, then aim
Work through some free practice questions and see which sub-domain gives way. Then spend most of your time there instead of revising everything evenly.
Read every worked solution, then redo the question
A wrong answer you understand is worth more than three right ones. This is the step tutoring is supposed to provide, and it is the step most people skip on their own.
